The formula has been used for more than 40 years as a quick and easy way to determine heart rate-based training zones. Since its inception in 1970, however, it’s come under fire for its potential to be wildly inaccurate, leading athletes to seek other ways to determine how hard to push a workout, like calculating lactate threshold-based training zones.
But that hasn’t stopped a new team of researchers from trying to revamp the old heart-rate formula. Dr. Thomas Allison, program director of the sports cardiology clinic at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and his colleagues recently analyzed data from 25,000 cardiac stress tests, Continue Reading

Another fantastic October day by the organizers of the Run for the Ridley who (as usual) put out a great group of people- a very well organized race, and some fantastic Manhattan clam chowder! This is one of our very favorite races and today, my 83 year old father collect his first turtle!
Another- Well Done for the Ridley
My wife is a terrific runner. She’s determined and focused on her overall health. We love Long Island 5k runs (and the occasional 10k run too) and have enjoyed many of the Long Island races of 2013. We put up the Long Island road race calendar just so those who want to run a race, say a 5k on Long Island will be able to quickly and easily post their race, look for recent race results and be part of a positive community.
We get a lot of emails asking us how to start running and how to do your first 5k race. Here’s an article she wrote that has started thousands of people on the path to healthy running. The fall is a great time to start to run and you can start today! And, if you need some coaching tips on health, relationships, or family or business issues you can see more at NicoleNenninger.com and donnenninger.com Keep on Running!
